J. D. Dowell was born and raised in Tampa having attended H. B. Plant high school in 1981. He then obtained his bachelor of science degree in finance from Florida State University in 1985, and received his law degree from Stetson University College of Law in 1988. He is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida. He is also a member of the Florida Justice Administration.

From 1988 to 1993, he was a member of Holland & Knight where he litigated commercial disputes, personal injury, products liability, and toxic tort matters. Since 1993 when he joined his current partners, he has devoted his practice to persons severely injured and families of loved ones killed as a result of the negligence of individuals and corporations. He has litigated cases involving personal injuries, wrongful death, product liability, premises liability, insurance disputes, sports law, and trucking litigation. His vast experience in litigating in trying cases to verdict has resulted in settlements and awards for our clients suffering through the worst times of their lives.
